Journalism Students Partner with UCP for Hands-On Breaking News Workshop at The Crime Scene Bungalow.
Level 3 Journalism students, based at our Media and Journalism Centre, stepped directly onto the ‘scene of a crime’ for an immersive breaking news reporting exercise hosted at University Centre Peterborough (UCP).
The learners visited UCP’s dedicated Crime Scene House, where Rob Stewart, HE Lecturer for Forensic Investigation, hosted the group and set up a staged crime scene, giving the students a live, realistic scenario to investigate and report on.
Working on location, the learners were challenged to gather facts, record multimedia content, and piece together the narrative as the story developed. This provided students with insight into the high-pressure environment of real-world crime reporting. Following the exercise, the students edited their footage and produced professional news content.
This collaboration project highlights the strong relationship between Peterborough College and University Centre Peterborough, giving further education students access to specialised higher education facilities and invaluable hands-on experience to prepare them for careers in Journalism.
