Dancing into Play Week: Peterborough College Students Uplift Young Patients at Peterborough City and Hinchingbrooke Hospitals

13 October 2026

Dance students from Peterborough College have once again brought smiles, energy and joy to young patients, performing a special routine at Peterborough City Hospital and Hinchingbrooke Hospital as part of the annual National Play Week celebrations.

This year, the performance was choreographed to a featured Taylor Swift track from the new Toy Story movie. The hospital team specifically requested the song, as the young patients on the wards have been loving the new film.

Building on an ongoing tradition of community collaboration between Peterborough College and the local NHS hospital trust, this year’s performances expanded across sites to uplift children and families spending time in the hospital, offering a moment of connection, laughter and fun through dance.

Dance Lecturer, Gem McDowell, said: ‘These events are vital for our students, to enable them to perform in different environments and engage with local communities. We look forward to working with the NHS every year to bring joy to the Children’s ward and their families.’

The college’s Performing Arts department continues to place community engagement at the heart of its curriculum, ensuring students gain real-world performance experience while giving back to local causes.
