Inspire Education Group Celebrates National Apprenticeship Week 2024

1 February 2024

Inspire Education Group (IEG), comprising Stamford College, Peterborough College and University Centre Peterborough, is proud to celebrate the biggest week in the apprenticeship calendar, National Apprenticeship Week 2024 (5th – 11th February). Recognising the exceptional work of employers and apprentices across England, the week highlights the positive impact that apprenticeships can make to employers of all sizes and sectors, individuals of all ages and backgrounds, and the effect on the wider economy.

This year’s theme is ‘Skills for Life’, which aims to promote how apprenticeships can help individuals to develop the knowledge required for a rewarding career, and how this in turn has a positive impact on skillset of the future workforce. Level 3 Plumbing and Heating Apprentice of Stamford College and J Wilson Plumbing, Scarlett Ball, stands out as an inspiring testament to this, sharing, “It’s been great to apply the practical and theoretical knowledge I’ve learnt at Stamford College in real-life settings. If you’re considering starting an apprenticeship, then just go for it! I’ve received so much support from both the College and my employer, and I’ve learnt skills for life”.

Now a Senior Marketing Executive, former Digital Marketing Apprentice of Peterborough College and the Chartered Institute of Credit Management, Tom Sharman, has used the skills acquired during his apprenticeship to implement an annual marketing strategy, and to participate in the launch of a new website. Tom’s hard work was recognised at the Peterborough Telegraph Apprenticeship Awards 2023, having been titled ‘Advanced Apprentice of the Year’. “I believe my apprenticeship instilled in me a profound sense of responsibility, determination, and perseverance in pursuing my goals”, Tom shared. “There really is no downside to apprenticeships – it’s a win-win situation”.

Imogen Freeborough is a shining example of apprenticeship success amongst Inspire Education Group staff. Having taken an interest in IT throughout her GCSE and A Level studies, Imogen pursued an Advanced Level Apprenticeship in IT, Software, Web & Telecoms Professionals at Stamford College. Upon successful completion of the work-based training programme, Imogen secured an employed role as the College’s IT Technician, before progressing to Senior IT Technician. “I would definitely recommend doing an apprenticeship, especially if you are a practical learner”, Imogen shared. “Overall, my apprenticeship was a very rewarding experience”.

During this nationally-recognised week, Inspire Education Group also seizes the opportunity to celebrate its longstanding partnerships with local employers. Having recently been titled ‘SME Employer of the Year’ at the Peterborough Telegraph Apprenticeship Awards 2023, EML Electrical stands as an exemplary employer, in our collaborative approach to shaping the future of the local workforce. Recognising the industry’s labour shortage, EML Electrical were motivated to nurture young talent, offering hands-on learning experiences to local students seeking an exciting career in electrical installation. “The labour problem has been getting worse over the years, and we want to be part of the solution”, Mark Brear, Director of EML shared. “For us, it’s very rewarding to see the apprentices learn and develop. We’re keen to keep hiring, and want to be known as the place to come for an apprenticeship!”.

This National Apprenticeship Week, Inspire Education Group is proud to highlight the enduring impact of apprenticeships on skills development, career advancement, and the continuous growth of our communities. We will continue to reflect upon the accomplishments of Inspire Education Group apprentices and partners, and will share a host of helpful apprenticeship resources, on our social media channels.
