Media Students Partner with ESOL Lecturer to Bring Neuroscience of Resilience to the Screen.
Students from T-Level Media courses have been put to the test, collaborating with author and ESOL lecturer Dinusha Amarasinghe to produce a new video series based on her book, Rising from the Shadows.
The project gave students a chance to take Dinusha’s research into neuroscience and linguistics and turn it into something visual and engaging. The series explored how the words we use at work can actually help require our brains for resilience, a concept known as neuroplasticity. To bring these ideas to life, the students handled everything from professional, long-form interviews to quick, punchy social media edits.
This collaboration was a perfect fit for the college, allowing students to apply their technical skills to a real-world project right on their doorstep. By helping a member of the college’s own teaching staff promote her professional work, the students proved they are more than ready for the industry, showing they can take deep psychological topics and make them accessible to everyone.
Dinusha, who balances her writing and speaking career with her role as an ESOL lecturer, was incredibly impressed with the result. “I want to say a huge thanks to the Level 4 and T-Level students; they did a fantastic job, and it was a pleasure working with them.” She said.
The project is a great example of what happens when staff and students work together. It’s not just about getting a qualification; it’s about giving students the hands-on experience they need to build sustainable careers while celebrating the achievements of the people who teach them.
