Hairdressing Students Push Creative Boundaries at Annual Avant-Garde Showcase
Hairdressing students at Peterborough College showcased their technical skills and artistic vision in a high-pressure Avant-Garde competition.
This event marked the final stage of an intensive Creative Image unit, in which learners were tasked with evolving a conceptual mood board into a physical masterpiece under strict exam conditions.
This year’s creative themes were Enchanted Forest, Under the Sea, Recycled Avant-Garde, and Bridgerton. This required a sophisticated blend of traditional hairdressing and modern prop-making, with many students spending weeks hand-crafting accessories to complement their visions.
The tension was high as two external judges, Jenny Sprules from L’Oreal and Wayne Potter from Barker’s Hair and Beauty, critiqued their work and evaluated each look on technical difficulty and creative impact.
The winners took home luxury prizes packed with professional hair products and tools. In the Level 2 Category, Poppy Elsey claimed 1st place, followed by Eliza Ghiimici in 2nd and Amy Mitchell in 3rd. The Level 3 honours were awarded to Lea Raven.
Congratulations to the winners and everyone who took part in the competition.
