Students Partner with Peterborough Cathedral for Katherine of Aragon Festival 2026

20 October 2025

Our Creative Arts department has been given an exciting opportunity to collaborate with Peterborough Cathedral for the upcoming Katherine of Aragon Festival 2026.

Art and Design students and Graphic Design Students at Peterborough College will contribute creative work that will be showcased within the historic setting of the Cathedral during the festival from 24th January 2026. They have both received briefs from Toni Morgan-Ray, Learning Officer at Peterborough Cathedral, inviting them to design and create original pieces inspired by Katherine of Aragon.

Art and Design students have been tasked with producing a unique artwork reflecting Katherine’s remarkable life and achievements. These pieces, which can include paintings, prints, photographs, or textile work, will be displayed on easels within the Cathedral Nave aisle, creating a stunning gallery experience for visitors as they arrive for the Tudor banquet. Selected work may also be re-exhibited over the weekend of the 31st January, allowing members of the public to view the students’ creations.

Graphic Design students will be designing bespoke bottle labels for two limited-edition meads created in collaboration with Iceni Meadery. The meads, Catalina and La Reina Querida, have been specially produced to honour Katharine of Aragon’s Spanish heritage and enduring symbolism. The winning label design will be used on bottles served at the banquet, with the designer’s name featured on the ingredients label.

This project offers learners a unique opportunity to see their work in one of the city’s most iconic historic spaces while contributing to a cultural event that celebrates Peterborough’s royal connection. This collaboration highlights Peterborough College’s ongoing commitment to connecting students with real-world creative opportunities, helping them to develop professional skills while engaging with the region’s rich cultural heritage.

We’ll be sharing the results once Cathedral staff and College tutors have chosen the final designs, celebrating the students whose work will be featured at this special event.
