Public Services Students Learn Leadership Skills from the Royal Navy

17 February 2025

Our Public Service students recently enjoyed an engaging visit from The Royal Navy Attract Team, participating in various leadership activities, listening to inspiring talks and taking part in an insightful Q&A session.

Henry, a level 3 student, shared: “I enjoyed the activities they set and stories they told us. During the Q&A, the answers I got back were a real eye-opener to the careers available within the Navy and the Marines.” The session not only provided insights into career opportunities but also helped students develop essential skills such as teamwork, communication and problem-solving.

Public Service Lecturer Tim commented: “Given the lack of opportunity to visit the Royal Navy in the local area, it was great to hear the first-hand experiences from RN and Royal Marines, which provided an understanding of various roles within that branch of the military. The students found the activities fun and enabled them to practice leadership and problem-solving skills with experienced RN personnel.”

The Royal Navy Attract Team visits schools, colleges and community groups to raise awareness of roles and operations, highlighting career opportunities and inspiring potential recruits. The team offers tailored advice on entry routes, training and life in the service, and it showcases the equipment and capabilities of the Royal Navy.

The visit marks the beginning of an exciting partnership, with plans for the Royal Navy and Royal Marines to return soon to discuss careers in greater detail and provide qualification-related training tailored to our student’s interests and aspirations.
