Peterborough College Animal Management Students Explore Degree Pathways and Specialist Care at University Centre Peterborough

20 October 2026

Level 3 BTEC National Extended Diploma in Animal Management students from Peterborough College recently visited University Centre Peterborough (UCP) to experience the higher education environment and gain valuable insights into degree-level animal sciences.

Hosted in UCP’s A-Level and higher education study spaces, the immersive visit combined an academic presentation, hands-on facility tours, and higher education course exploration designed to bridge the gap between college study and university degrees.

During the visit, students attended a specialised presentation delivered by Fiona Jayne Coombs, who explored the profound impacts of psychological and physical trauma on animal heart health. The lecture offered students a taste of university-level academic content, introducing advanced concepts in animal physiology and veterinary psychology.

The students also toured UCP’s animal care facilities led by John-Paul, providing them with a firsthand look at the high-standard environments and practical resources supporting higher education study. To conclude the session, John-Paul delivered a comprehensive overview of the Animal Studies degree pathways available at UCP, detailing how students can progress their qualifications, build specialised careers, and transition seamlessly into degree-level study locally.

By connecting Peterborough College vocational learners directly with UCP academics and specialist facilities, the visit highlighted the clear progression routes available to aspiring animal care and welfare professionals within Peterborough.
