Peterborough College and South Lincolnshire Group Training Association (SLGTA) Host Construction & Engineering Skills Career Event
Nurturing the skillset of tomorrow’s workforce, Peterborough College hosted a Construction & Engineering Skills Career Event for local school students, in partnership with South Lincolnshire Group Training Association (SLGTA).
Hundreds of students from Nene Park Academy, Thomas Clarkson Academy, Marshfields School, Casterton College, Arthur Mellows Village College, Ken Stimpson Community School, and St Peters School Huntingdon enjoyed a wide variety of hands-on activities, from clay sculpting, earth structures and brickwork, to plumbing, tiling and electrical.
A local industry provider kindly supported each activity. Inspire Education Group thanks the representatives of the TunnelSkills, London Bridge Associates, GBSG, Urban & Civic, Daniel Charles Construction, Crowley Associates, Balfour Beatty, Millstone Restoration Training, CITB, Inspire2Ignite, and Mick George Group, for sharing their invaluable expertise.
Emma Hill, Head of Faculty for Technical and Modern Construction Skills at Stamford College, said, “Once again, the Construction & Engineering Skills Career Event was an exciting and engaging day, supported by employers from across the region. It provided pupils with hands-on activities for a real-life experience of the Construction and Engineering industry. Thank you also to our College students who assisted at the event as Student Ambassadors, ensuring everyone had a positive experience.”
This gratitude was emulated by Steve Taylor, Group Training Manager for South Lincolnshire Group Training Association, who said, “These free-to-attend events are a great example of what effective working relationships can achieve. We have received fantastic support, sponsorship and goodwill from micro-businesses, large employers, and further education providers and training companies. We have again provided an excellent experience for school children in our region”.
