Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service Inspires Next Generation of Public Service Students
Students from our Uniformed Public Service course enjoyed an interactive, insightful visit from the Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service.
The visit started with a presentation where students learned about recruitment entry routes, the physical and mental demands of the role and the wide range of career pathways available within the service.
The session then moved outside, where they gained a real sense of the job by stepping onto the aerial ladder platform, running out fire hoses and speaking directly with serving crew members about the daily responsibilities of emergency response.
Ruth Campbell-Ekins from the Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We’ve thoroughly enjoyed spending time with the students and sharing an insight into Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service. We’re passionate about helping young people explore the many career opportunities available within the fire service, and giving them the chance to take part in hands-on activities helps bring those roles to life. These sessions are equally valuable for us; the feedback we receive helps us develop activities and resources that connect with and support our communities.”
Industry engagement is central to the Uniformed Public Services curriculum. These interactive visits highlight the diverse career pathways available to students, helping them connect classroom theory with real-world application.
