Art and Design Student Secures Win in Local Art Competition
Art and Design student Kennedy Michan has won the top prize in the local landscape art competition celebrating Bourne’s natural beauty and heritage.
Organised as part of the “Celebrate Local Art in Bourne” initiative, supported by Bourne United Charities and The Old Town Hall, the competition invited artists to capture the landscapes, landmarks and picturesque views of the town and its surrounding area.
Kennedy’s winning piece was started and finished in a single day, after learning about the competition just days before the deadline. Kennedy visited Wellhead Park, photographed and then went home to paint. “I was pretty surprised that I won”, said Kennedy. “I only found out the week of the competition. I went on Tuesday to take photos and then started on the project the day before the deadline.”
Throughout her studies, Kennedy has gravitated towards oil painting, highlighting how the course structure and tutor support help students build their artistic skills and hone in on the techniques they favour most.
Looking ahead, Kennedy plans to build on this success by applying to university to study Fine Arts, followed by a Master’s degree in Interior Design.
