There are 850 000 people living with dementia in the UK today and this number is expected to rise to over one million by 2025. The Level 3 Certificate in Understanding the Principles of Dementia Care enables learners to develop knowledge and understanding of caring for individuals with dementia. It allows learners to develop in-depth knowledge and understanding of dementia and its effects. Learners will gain an understanding of the types of dementia, the importance of early diagnosis and the role of communication, interaction and inclusion in dementia care and support.
To be awarded the Level 3 Certificate in Understanding Mental Health, learners are required to successfully complete 5 mandatory units:
You need to be aged 19 or over at the start of the current academic year to be able to enrol on one of our Distance Learning courses.
You will also need to be working at or above Level 1 in English.
We will assess your level of English before we enrol you onto the course and can signpost you to our Functional Skills English courses to upskill if necessary.
You can apply for a Distance Learning course at any time.
Once you have completed the online initial assessment, the Distance Learning team will enrol you onto our learning platform and you will be able to start straight away.
In order to meet the deadlines for each assessment, you should plan to spend at least 4-6 hours a week studying on your course.
Distance Learning courses can be studied from home, work, or any location you wish.
They are designed for independent study, and you do not have to attend any sessions. However, your assigned assessors and the Distance Learning team will provide you with support and guidance throughout your course.
To ensure that you keep on track and meet your deadlines, it is suggested that you undertake at least 4-6 hours study per week. You will complete online assessments at regular intervals and the due dates for submission of your work are shown on the platform.
Your allocated assessor will mark your assessments and provide you with feedback and support. It is important that you demonstrate to your assessor that you have understood the question and applied your knowledge to the answers.
If your assessor feels you need to add more detail, they will support you with feedback and you will be able to add to your original answer and resubmit your work.
