Our part-time GCSE Maths course is tailor-made for adult learners aged 19 or above who want to unlock exciting professional or academic opportunities. Whether you are aiming for a career pivot, looking to secure a promotion, or preparing for a return to education, this course provides the ideal stepping stone. A GCSE in Mathematics is a cornerstone requirement for many rewarding progression pathways. It is highly valued across diverse industries—such as healthcare, engineering, business, and public services—and is a mandatory prerequisite for entering university degree courses, Access to Higher Education diplomas, and teacher training programmes.

What Will I Need?

Ideally, you will join us with a Grade 3/D at GCSE level or have successfully completed Level 2 Functional Skills Maths. However, don’t let past qualifications hold you back! We invite all applicants in for a screening assessment regardless of their educational background. If you show us that you are currently working at a sufficient level and possess the drive to succeed, we will gladly offer you a place on the programme.

You will be invited into college to complete an AQA past paper to judge your suitability for the course.

What is covered?

This programme covers six fundamental areas of mathematics, building both your practical skills and problem-solving confidence:

  • Number: Master fractions, decimals, percentages, indices, and standard form.
  • Algebra: Learn to work with expressions, solve linear and quadratic equations, sequences, and coordinate graphs.
  • Ratio, Proportion, and Rates of Change: Understand scale factors, compound measures (like speed and density), and direct/inverse proportion.
  • Geometry and Measures: Explore angles, perimeter, area, volume, Pythagoras’ theorem, basic trigonometry, and transformations.
  • Probability: Calculate risks, understand independent events, and utilise Venn and tree diagrams.
  • Statistics: Practise data collection, interpret charts, calculate averages (mean, median, mode), and analyse scatter graphs.
