The computer games industry has become one of the fastest developing disciplines across the globe. Learning how to design games covers a wide range of skills, and you will be exploring and developing the fundamental tools required for game design, including:
Grow as the industry grows and research gaming for developing technologies like AR and VR. Craft stories and narratives to take the player into the world you have created and design the sounds needed to bring that world to life.
During your study you will enjoy learning a number of exciting digital processes, and using software to generate assets, and game content. This will include creating sound effects and music to go into games that you will create. You will also develop a strong portfolio of your work covering different elements of Game Design. You will also investigate contextual influences and learn how to reflect on your own practice and discuss the work of others.
4 GCSEs at grade 4/C or above including English and maths. Other preferred qualifcations include: Art, Graphics, Computer studies/IT and/or Media studies
All units are assessed via coursework.
There will be 2 units to complete per year, with the first unit being delivered across three smaller projects, these include:
A1 Skills Development (3 x assignments)
A2 Creative Project: (1 x assignment)
B1 Personal Progression (1 x assignment)
B2 Creative Industry Response (1 x assignment)
Work is assessed at Pass, Merit, and Distinction level. The qualification carries UCAS tariff points allowing learners to move on to Higher Education and University programmes.
