What can this course lead to?

You can progress on to a Level 3 Engineering qualification (providing you have achieved English and maths at the level that you are currently studying), an apprenticeship or go in to employment within the engineering industry.

Who is it for?

The basic engineering course is a great starting point if you have an interest in this subject and are looking to learn more. The course will develop your skills, knowledge and understanding, enabling you to progress to the next level of learning whether that be a higher level qualification or an apprenticeship.

What is covered?

A wide range of basic engineering subjects will be covered which aims to give the learner a wide range of skills which will be used in their future careers.

The initial mandatory unit covers safe working practices in engineering and gives the learner an initial understanding of the regulations used in the engineering industry. The other units which make up this qualification cover practical skills backed up by theory to give the learner some basic practical skills in engineering.

You will cover:

  • Machining
  • Fabrication and fitting hand skills
  • Giving them the chance to learn manufacturing skills and pneumatics.

The practical units are taught alongside maths, science and customer service to provide the learner with a sound basic knowledge of engineering principles.

3 GCSEs at grade 3/D or above to include English, maths & Science. A relevant Level 1 qualification may be considered instead of GCSE Science.
