Who is it for?
This qualification is designed to provide learners with the knowledge and understanding required to successfully lead a team within a workplace and is suitable for those who are already in a team leader position or for anyone wishing to progress to this role.
Strong team leadership is essential for providing guidance, direction and instruction within a group and inevitably leads to more effective teamwork and more motivated employees. Being able to manage a team effectively is critical in the current job market, where employee productivity and team outcomes are closely monitored.
What is covered?
To be awarded the Level 2 Certificate in Principles of Team Leading, learners are required to successfully complete 8 units:
- Unit 01 Principles of team leading
- Unit 02 Understand business
- Unit 03 Understand how to communicate work-related information
- Unit 04 Understand how to deliver customer service and resolve problems
- Unit 05 Understand how to develop working relationships with colleagues

You need to be aged 19 or over at the start of the current academic year to be able to enrol on one of our Distance Learning courses.
You will also need to be working at or above Level 1 in English.
We will assess your level of English before we enrol you onto the course and can signpost you to our Functional Skills English courses to upskill if necessary.
You can apply for a Distance Learning course at any time.
Once you have completed the online initial assessment, the Distance Learning team will enrol you onto our learning platform and you will be able to start straight away.
In order to meet the deadlines for each assessment, you should plan to spend at least 4-6 hours a week studying on your course.
Distance Learning courses can be studied from home, work, or any location you wish.
They are designed for independent study, and you do not have to attend any sessions. However, your assigned assessors and the Distance Learning team will provide you with support and guidance throughout your course.
To ensure that you keep on track and meet your deadlines, it is suggested that you undertake at least 4-6 hours study per week. You will complete online assessments at regular intervals and the due dates for submission of your work are shown on the platform.
Your allocated assessor will mark your assessments and provide you with feedback and support. It is important that you demonstrate to your assessor that you have understood the question and applied your knowledge to the answers. If your assessor feels you need to add more detail, they will support you with feedback and you will be able to add to your original answer and resubmit your work.
