What can this course lead to?

A Foundation Degree in Early Years, Playwork and Education.

Who is it for?

This course is suitable for those working or as volunteers in a supervised role that support pupils’ learning within an early year’s environment for a minimum of 350 placement hours (60 days). 18-20 hours per week for the duration of the course.

What is covered?

The units cover children and young people's development, the requirements of safeguarding, a longitudinal study on a child and the importance of equality, diversity and inclusion. In order to aid holistic delivery and assessment there are structured units around the following four themes:

  • Theme 1: Health and well–being 
  • Theme 2: Legislation, frameworks and professional practice
  • Theme 3: Play, development and learning for school readiness
  • Theme 4: Professional development

Working or volunteering in an early years setting. Previous experience required in a setting. Learners will also require a GCSE C grade in English and Maths to count in the ratios at Level 3 in childcare settings. However there is no requirement for learners to have achieved GCSE English and Maths upon commencement or completion of a standalone Early Years Educator qualification but this may impact on employment within the sector.
