As a fully competent Bricklayer you will meet the requirements to gain a Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) Card at the appropriate level, and be entitled to join the Federation of Master Builders’ continuous professional development (CPD) scheme for individual tradespeople.
What can this course lead to?
Who is it for?
Bricklayers lay bricks, blocks and other types of building components in mortar to construct and repair walls, foundations, partitions, arches and other structures e.g chimney stacks. They might also refurbish brickwork and masonry on restoration projects. The range of sites and projects that bricklayers will work on include large commercial developments, new builds in housing alterations, extensions and restorations. A bricklayer may work one-on-one or on larger jobs where their bricklaying group may work on a particular section of a building alongside other bricklaying groups as well as other trades.
What is covered?
You will be required to complete the criteria within the Assessment Plan for Skills, Knowledge and Behaviours.
Knowledge: Health and Safety, Customer Service, Communication, Buildings, Energy Efficiency, Materials, Alternative Construction Techniques, Radial and Battered Brickwork, Feature and Reinforced Brickwork, Fireplaces and Chimneys.
Skills: Preparation of materials, Safe working area, Masonry structures, Radial and battered brickwork, Feature and reinforced brickwork, Other brickwork, Building technology.
Behaviours: Positive and mature attitudes, Quality focused, Effective communication, self-motivated learner.

Individual employers set their own entry requirements. However, you will typically require 3 GCSEs at grades 4/C or above including English and maths.
You will be employed as an apprentice for at least 30 hours a week. You will have a workplace mentor or supervisor who will be responsible for your training and welfare at work. You will attend college for workshop sessions as required.
