Photography Lecturer Named ‘Photographer of the Year – Architectural & Industrial’ by the Institute for Professional Photography

8 December 2025

Lauren Irving, Photography Lecturer at Peterborough College, part of Inspire Education Group, has won ‘Photographer of the Year – Architectural & Industrial’ by the Institute for Professional Photography, following a year of exceptional creative work.

Her imagery was inspired by a desire to capture the character and personality of a space, drawing on experience in portrait and event photography to highlight the unique qualities of architectural subjects.

Speaking after receiving the award, she described the moment as both surreal and incredibly meaningful:

“I’m still smiling. The judges were photographers that I really respect and admire, so the fact that they were judging really meant a lot to me.”

The Institute for Professional Photography is recognised as the oldest professional photography institute in the country and is regarded as a leading authority for commercial photography standards in the UK.

When asked about what message she would give to any present or future photography students, Lauren said,“Perseverance and patience are everything. If you have a genuine passion for photography, keep going, keep capturing, and keep working hard. Twenty years later, I finally feel like I am where I am meant to be.”

This remarkable achievement highlights the professional excellence of our teaching team and offers genuine inspiration to students beginning their journey in photography and the creative industries.
