Peterborough College Student Wins National ‘Spirit of Rugby’ Award
Representatives from SKRUM Foundation visited Peterborough College, part of Inspire Education Group, to present student Joe Merrell with the national Spirit of Rugby award, with SKRUM founder Michael Collinson personally presenting the accolade.
Michael Collinson, founder of SKRUM and recipient of World Rugby’s original Spirit of Rugby award in 2003, visited the college to recognise Joe’s achievement following the Rosslyn Park National Schools Sevens tournament.
The moment was shared with Joe’s family and staff from Inspire Education Group (IEG), marking a significant and memorable occasion.
The award recognises individuals who demonstrate outstanding values within the sport, and Dan Ruscillo, Assistant Head of Faculty for Sport at IEG, added that Joe was selected for his “sportsmanship, bravery and for being an inspiration” to others throughout the competition.
The Rosslyn Park National Schools Sevens is one of the largest school rugby tournaments in the UK, bringing together teams from across the country to compete at a national level.
Joe’s recognition highlights the positive values developed through sport, including teamwork, respect and resilience.
Peterborough College congratulate Joe on this achievement and wishes him every success in his future career.
