Peterborough College Music Department Returns to The Met Lounge for ‘Night at The Met’

Following the resounding success of December’s Polaroid Playback showcase, the talented musicians of Peterborough College returned to the iconic Met Lounge for an unforgettable evening of talent and musical variety. 

The event, titled ‘Night at The Met’ saw students from across all levels of the music curriculum take to the stage on Bridge Street. Unlike previous performances that followed specific era-based themes, this showcase was defined by its lack of boundaries, allowing students the creative freedom to perform an unrestricted mix of genres. 

From the high-octane energy of Drum and Bass and Rock to Indie pop, alternative and emo, the night proved to be a vibrant collision of styles. The ‘no-theme’ approach highlighted the versatility of the College’s contemporary performance training, offering something for every music lover in the packed venue.

Cherish Groom, Music Lecturer, said, “It’s such a great opportunity for students to get a flavour of what it is like performing in Peterborough. Thankfully we have a very supportive local music venue (Met Lounge) who the College has a strong connection with, who also hosts all of our big performances. Building these relationships with each other ensures we are constantly driving the current local music industry needs. And gives us a chance to refine our course provision for our students, hopefully sending our young talent either to university or into the thriving local music scene with some of their own contacts they can use for their future.”

The Met Lounge provided the perfect professional backdrop for the young musicians, many of whom were gaining vital experience in a legendary local venue known for hosting touring acts. Parents, friends and local music fans gathered to support the next generation of talent, praising the professional organisation and the high standard of musicians on display. 

This latest showcase reinforces Peterborough College’s commitment to providing real-world industry experience, ensuring students graduate with the stagecraft and confidence needed to navigate the modern music industry.
