Peterborough College Lecturer Wins Two Boxing Matches For Charity

3 September 2025

Peterborough College lecturer Teresa Coleman has proved it’s never too late to take on a new challenge after raising £2,000 through two charity boxing matches.

At 53, Teresa trained hard for her first fight, completing two tough boxing sessions each week over an eight-week programme. She then stepped into the ring at Planet Ice in Bretton, admitting she felt nervous for her first fight but determined to see it through.

Prior to her fight, a close friend had been diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer and Teresa wanted to raise money for Cancer Research UK, a charity close to her heart. Teresa won her first fight giving her not only confidence but a new passion.

A year later, she returned to the ring for a second match, this time raising money for Boxing Futures, a charity that supports disadvantaged young people with their physical and mental health. Training at the Boxing Futures gym in Yaxley, Teresa says she quickly saw how much of a difference the organisation makes especially due to her background in education. She particularly valued the way Boxing Futures uses sport to give young people structure, focus and self-belief and told us she is so proud that one of her younger female students has since started Boxing Futures.

Reflecting on her journey and winning both fights, Teresa encourages others to take on challenges that might seem out of reach, “You will surprise yourself with what you’re able to achieve. It may completely change your life and give you a brand-new interest or a hobby.”

Looking to the future, Teresa is weighing up her next challenge. She may step into the ring for one final fight next year, or take a year away from boxing to pursue a new goal of completing a triathlon. Whatever path she chooses, Teresa is embracing the spirit of adventure and remains a proud supporter of Boxing Futures.

Teresa is leading the way for young people and demonstrating how hard work pays off. We wish her the best in any future boxing escapades and congratulate her success.
