Peterborough College Lecturer Leads International Research on Green Construction and Sustainable Supply Chains
Peterborough College, part of Inspire Education Group, is proud to celebrate the achievements of Tharaki Hettiarachchi, Lecturer in the Faculty of the Built Environment, whose work is helping to shape the future of green construction and smart supply chains—further strengthening the College’s position as a leader in sustainability education.

Tharaki recently delivered a guest lecture on “Green and Smart Supply Chains: Leveraging Technology for Sustainable Global Trade” to final-year undergraduate students at the Department of Operations Management, Faculty of Management, University of Peradeniya—one of the top three universities in Sri Lanka.
Her session explored how technology and innovation can create more sustainable global trade and reduce environmental impact.
Alongside this international engagement, Tharaki continues to publish influential academic research, including:
– Quantity Surveyors’ Role in Enhancing Green Construction Performance via Dispute Resolution – now published in the peer-reviewed MDPI journal, focusing on how effective dispute resolution can support greener construction practices.
– Integrity of Sustainability Literacy in the UK Construction Industry: A Multi-dimensional Analysis – presented at the SURE-Built Conference 2025, University of Johannesburg, South Africa.
High-Profile UK Engagements
In 2024, Tharaki also represented Peterborough College at two prestigious UK events:
Study UK – British Council’s GREAT Scholars Networking Event at Edgbaston Stadium, Birmingham, where she shared career insights as a past GREAT Scholar and developed academic-industry collaborations and The QSi’s 20th Anniversary Celebration at the House of Lords, where she joined sector leaders to explore collaborative initiatives and strengthen the College’s professional networks.

These achievements come at an exciting time for Peterborough College, which recently opened its state-of-the-art Centre for Green Technology (CGT).
The CGT is a flagship facility designed to train hundreds of students each year in low-carbon technologies and sustainable building methods, supporting the Government’s 2050 net zero ambitions and local green skills needs.

Through world-class facilities and globally respected teaching staff, Peterborough College is equipping the next generation with the skills to lead the transition to a low-carbon economy—and strengthening its reputation as a centre of excellence in sustainable construction.
