Journalism Students Pitch Campaigns for It's Not Banter Re-Launch

12 November 2025

Level 3 Journalism students from Peterborough College, part of the Inspire Education Group, have been working on a live brief to relaunch the ‘It’s Not Banter’ campaign, designed to encourage conversations around respect and tolerance.

Students were challenged to develop an inclusive campaign to engage learners and apprentices of all ages and from all types of provision. Their task included considering accessibility, communication methods, and overall impact. Today, the students showcased their creativity and presentation skills by pitching their campaign ideas to a panel of judges. The winning concept will be implemented across Inspire Education Group later this academic year.

The It’s Not Banter campaign was originally launched in 2024 as a collaboration between Peterborough Citizens and schools and colleges across the city. The initiative addresses the issue of prejudiced comments disguised as “banter,” which can create a disempowering and hostile environment for students, staff, and parents.

As part of the original campaign, a toolkit of resources was developed to help schools and education institutions facilitate challenging conversations and integrate inclusion into PSHE and wider curriculum delivery. The It’s Not Banter campaign continues to reflect Inspire Education Group’s strategic priorities by promoting an inclusive and respectful learning environment for all. This commitment to equality and belonging is further demonstrated through the Group’s status as a College of Sanctuary and as a signatory of the Anti-Racism Charter.
