Inspire Education Group Celebrates Green Careers Week, Supporting the Future Green Workforce

30 October 2025

Inspire Education Group (IEG) is proud to celebrate Green Careers Week, a national initiative that promotes green skills, diversity, and real career opportunities in industries contributing to sustainability.

As part of IEG’s commitment to building the future workforce, we are leading the charge in developing green careers through our three main campuses: Stamford College, Peterborough College, and University Centre Peterborough.

A green career can be any job, role or occupation that contributes to preserving or restoring the environment and our planet. It can be any industry, not just those seen as ‘green.’ Green skills are abilities, attributes, values, attitudes, knowledge, and technical skills needed to adapt services, processes and procedures to support climate change.

Earlier this year, Peterborough College officially unveiled its £13.5 million Centre for Green Technology (CGT) at Peterborough College — a landmark facility designed not only to address the UK’s green skills shortage, but to serve as a bold example of how education can directly power economic growth, workforce readiness, and environmental responsibility.

The £13.5 million project is partly funded by the Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority (CPCA), with £2.471 million from the Transforming Cities Fund, £400,000 from the Local Growth Fund, £1.9 million from Peterborough City Council via the Towns Fund, and the Department for Education’s Local Skills Improvement Fund (£1.42 million). IEG’s contribution to the project was £8.3M, with £5.5M from the DFE capital loan scheme and £2.8M from IEG’s capital reserves.

Stamford College students have completed biodiversity projects and participated in initiatives like ‘Mow May’, which foster ecological responsibility. The College’s green initiatives also extend into vocational training, ensuring students are well-prepared for emerging green careers.

Meanwhile, University Centre Peterborough (UCP) launched a new engineering degree in September 2025, which introduces students to cutting-edge technologies in energy engineering. The programme includes modules on renewable energy sources and energy storage systems, such as battery and hydrogen technology, both of which are critical to meeting the UK’s green energy needs.

IEG’s collective efforts across Peterborough College, Stamford College, and University Centre Peterborough ensure that we are not only contributing to the UK’s sustainability goals but also empowering the next generation of professionals to lead the way in green industries.
