From Classroom to Commission: Students Debut Film for Peterborough Council
Our Level 2 Media students recently completed a significant project for Peterborough Council Volunteer Services.
They were commissioned to create a 10-minute short film exploring the pros and cons of being part of the “always online” generation, to serve as the opening piece for a conference on online safety, and together they devised the structure, conducted interviews with other students and filmed B-Roll content, before editing it together into a fantastic and really powerful documentary.
Their film ‘Young People’s Safety Online’ was screened today to an audience of nearly 200 delegates, and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with the audience impressed by how the students handled such a difficult and relevant topic.
Two students, Cleopatra Leorda and Lewis Coley, took the lead by introducing the film to the room. They also sat on a Q&A panel later in the day, alongside two Members of Parliament. Both Cleopatra and Lewis did an excellent job as ambassadors for Peterborough College, earning glowing praise from the event organisers for their professionalism and insight.
Duty Principal Lisa Nightingale-Gepp attended the event and noted how well the students represented the college:
“The students did really well during the Q and A, they even had a few questions directed straight at them and spoke confidently with really thoughtful answers. They came across so well! The film and the students were given special mentions from the guest speakers and others in the room spoke really positively about the film and the students. They did you, your team and IEG very proud!”
It was a brilliant example of our students delivering high-quality work for a real-world commission.
