After completing the NOCN Level 2 Renewable Technologies and Sustainable Energy qualification, learners can continue their learning at Level 2 or progress to:

• A relevant Level 3 qualification in renewable technologies
• NOCN Level 3 Diploma in Low Carbon Heating Technician
• NOCN Level 3 Award for Solar PV Installer and Operator
• NOCN Level 3 Certificate for Solar PV Installer and Operator
• NOCN Level 3 Award in Domestic Retrofit Advice
• Low Carbon Heating Technician Apprenticeship

The qualification is designed to develop the skills and competencies of learners in the following areas:

Mandatory Units

• Understanding the issues around the use of fossil fuels and the implications for system design and specification. Exploring the history of our energy generation and displaying an understanding of carbon release and the greenhouse gas effect on global warming.
• Developing a broad understanding of the range of technologies available and the advantages and disadvantages of each system.
• Understanding the process of energy surveys and EPCs and developing skills in how to advise customers on the renewable energy choices available to them.
• Demonstrating the ability to follow instructions and apply them to installation, commissioning and maintenance tasks.
• Demonstrating an understanding of the physics and processes underpinning heat generation.

Air Source Heat Pump Pathway

• Understand the functions of heat pumps, with a focus on Air Source Heat Pumps
• Understand how to select an appropriate heat pump for a home
• Understand Health & Safety requirements and typical faults of Air Source Heat Pumps (e.g. installing and maintaining)
