What can this course lead to?

This 1-day training course is designed for experienced domestic heating installers and/or plumbers who want to self-certificate under Approved Document G of the Building Regulations, or those looking to join the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) as a solar thermal installer.

Who is it for?

The LCL Awards’ Hot Water Systems and Safety (HWSS) course, previously known as the “Unvented G3” course, is designed for experienced plumbing and heating engineers who want to install, service, and maintain unvented hot water storage systems. This course helps them comply with building regulations and allows them to self-certify their work through Competent Persons Schemes.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

It is essential that HWSS candidates will be experienced in the installation of cold and hot water systems. It is also essential that they hold one DCLG recognised competency in a conventional fuel i.e. gas, oil or solid fuel; or for those in the plumbing field an NVQ level 2 or equivalent plumbing qualification or experience. A basic knowledge of the WRAS Water (fittings) Regulations is desirable although this course is available separately.
