The LCL Awards’ Hot Water Systems and Safety (HWSS) course, previously known as the “Unvented G3” course, is designed for experienced plumbing and heating engineers who want to install, service, and maintain unvented hot water storage systems. This course helps them comply with building regulations and allows them to self-certify their work through Competent Persons Schemes.

It is essential that HWSS candidates will be experienced in the installation of cold and hot water systems. It is also essential that they hold one DCLG recognised competency in a conventional fuel i.e. gas, oil or solid fuel; or for those in the plumbing field an NVQ level 2 or equivalent plumbing qualification or experience. A basic knowledge of the WRAS Water (fittings) Regulations is desirable although this course is available separately. Candidates undertaking the course should be conversant with Approved Document G (ADG) document which can be downloaded from the following link: Part G Building Document 2010
Assessment is carried out using a variety of methods; including multiple choice, short written response and scenario questions and observed practical tasks.
You should bring the following with you to your course:
- One passport-sized photograph (if not already sent)
- Formal ID (Passport or Driving Licence)
- Copies of prior learnings, such as ACS or plumbing certificates
