Guidance is available for learners wishing to progress to further study or training, including Access to Higher Education, Level 3 courses, or employment routes requiring GCSE Science.
What can this course lead to?
Who is it for?
GCSE Science (Trilogy) is a nationally recognised qualification that combines Biology, Chemistry and Physics into a single, coherent course. It is designed to give learners a broad understanding of scientific principles and how science applies to everyday life, work, and further study.
The course is ideal for learners who need a strong science qualification for progression but do not require three separate GCSEs in Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
What is covered?
The course covers key areas in all three sciences:
In Biology, you'll cover living organisms, health and ecosystems.
In Chemistry, you'll cover materials, reactions, energy and rates.
In Physics, you'll cover energy, forces, waves and electricity.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
This course is open to applications for learners 19+ only.
No formal science qualification is necessary, particularly for beginners or return-to-learn adults.
Must have GCSE English and Maths at a grade 4/C or a recognised equivalent such as Functional Skills Level 2
The course is delivered through a combination of tutor-led teaching, practical work, blended learning, exam practice and independent study, providing learners with the knowledge and skills needed to successfully complete GCSE Science (Trilogy).
One 3-hour evening session a week, 17.30 – 20.30 (day to be confirmed).
Your assessment will be 100% examination-based. There is no coursework on the GCSE Science (Trilogy).
Typically, you will complete 6 written exams: 2 Biology papers, 2 Chemistry papers and 2 Physics papers.
Each exam is 1 hour 15 minutes long.
Exams include multiple-choice questions, short-answer questions, longer, structured responses, and questions based on practical experiments Practical skills are taught during the course and tested through exam questions, rather than assessed separately.
Learners may be asked to purchase:
- Revision guides or textbooks
- Exercise books, folders, stationery
- Scientific calculator (recommended for Chemistry and Physics)
The estimated costs of these items is: £10–£30 (depending on what learners already have)
Attendance
