PRC Brickwork Apprentice wins National Award
Brickwork apprentice, Adam Schneider who currently studies on the level 2 bricklaying apprenticeship, has competed in both Regional and National Guild of Bricklayers competitions and won both. Adam studies one day a week and four days a week on site with his employer, Randall & Co Builders.
Adam took part in the Regionals on the 23rd May at West Suffolk College, Bury St Edmunds which he won. This guaranteed a place in the National final which took place on 27th June at Brooklands College, Weybridge Campus, Surrey. Adam was on holiday in Ibiza for the National final and was likely to miss the occasion but Adam made the decision he could not miss this opportunity and booked a flight back to attend the final. Adam was tasked to produce his best work from the specification plan and he fought off competition from 9 other regional winners. Adam returned to holiday knowing he was the National Champion for Guild of Bricklayers and was delighted.
Adam spoke of his experiences saying “I was on holiday in Ibiza for my second competition, I flew back to attend the final and was over the moon to learn that I was the National champion! I flew back to finish my holiday once I was crowned the winner!”
John Higgins, Brickwork Lecturer said “Adam has proven to be an exemplary learner, his attitude to timekeeping and attendance, his commitment to learning and private study have been admirable. Adam constantly strives to produce work in both theory and practical sessions to the highest of standards and is a credit to both the College and his Employer.”
Marie Peene Operations Director – Employer Services and Apprenticeships said “Apprenticeships are a vital element of training to allow employers to build and shape their workforce and provide hands on experience. Adam’s hard work is inspirational and his dedication to the industry has been highlighted by this honour.”
Richard Randall, Director of Randall & Co Builders commented “Adam has been an apprentice with us since September 2017 and has gone from strength to strength. He has made me very proud and is a credit to the company. He has knuckled down since day one and he is a pleasure to work with.”
