This practical course can be used to go on to further study in production, music technology, sound engineering, theatre sound or television sound production.
You could also use this qualification to start your career in music technology moving straight into roles in sound production, media or music production.

To ensure you leave the course a proficient and skilled music technologist or producer, this two year course will familiarise you with a wide range of music technology topics including:
During this course you will cover the following topics:
5 GCSEs at grade 4/C including English. Or a Merit in a relevant Level 2 qualification, plus GCSE English at grade 4/C or a pass in English Functional Skills Level 2.
You will complete a number of assignments, including assessed live work, written projects, recorded and notated compositional work, organisation of events etc. Assessed live work takes place during the day, in the evening and occasionally at weekends.
There are also external examinations and assessments.
As part of the course you will need to be available for select evening rehearsals and performances (dates are provided well in advance) and you will require the department’s standard performance uniform (to be discussed at your interview).
You will also need to provide your own headphones with 1/4” jack adaptors, a USB stick (minimum 16GB), and cover any field trip costs (if applicable).

Full-time courses are fully funded for 16 to 19-year-olds. For age 19+, various funding options are available.
Progressing to a point where I felt more comfortable writing my assignments, and having my scores reflecting that, made me quite happy because it showed the hard work was being rewarded.
