Who is it for?

This qualification aims to raise awareness of the role of the mental health worker and the process and approaches involved in the care and support of those who experience mental ill health.

Mental health presents one of the greatest challenges to our society. With an estimated 450 million people worldwide suffering from a mental health problem, around a quarter of British adults will experience some form of mental health problem within the course of a year.

This qualification is aimed at people who are working, or intending to work in a health or social care context and gives an understanding of approaches to supporting those with mental health needs.

What is covered?

To be awarded the Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Working with People with Mental Health Needs, learners are required to successfully complete 5 units:  

  • Unit 01 Understand the role of the mental health worker
  • Unit 02 Mental health and mental health issues
  • Unit 03 Understand duty of care in adult health and social care
  • Unit 04 Approaches to care and management in mental health
  • Unit 05 Understanding change and support in relation to mental health

You need to be aged 19 or over at the start of the current academic year to be able to enrol on one of our Distance Learning courses.

You will also need to be working at or above Level 1 in English. 

We will assess your level of English before we enrol you onto the course and can signpost you to our Functional Skills English courses to upskill if necessary.
