Are you an existing role and wanting to upskill?

If you enjoy working with Children and providing a safe and caring environment for children to play and learn in this could be for you. To work in childcare you will need to have a strong commitment to providing high standard of quality care for children and to be able to take direction from senior staff. This Apprenticeship covers all aspects of working with children of all ages and in a variety of different settings from a family home, a Pre–school and in a nursery setting.

Anyone living in England, over 16 and not in full–time education can apply.

Interview Skills Assessment

All candidates will be invited to a pre interview and initial assessments in English and Maths with the Apprenticeship Recruitment Officers.

What will I need

What is covered

On this course you will cover:
•Supporting children's play and learning
•General health and safety
•Supporting, planning and monitoring children's development
•Team work
•Problem solving and dealing with parents and families
•Understanding how to work in partnership

Apprentices are expected to attend college one a month for workshops as part of 20% off–the–job training. Additional off–the–job training hours are expected to be completed within the workplace.

What can this course lead to?
Successful learners can continue to work within the childcare and gain promotion or learners could progress to further education. Possible job roles include: Childcare Assistant, Nursery Assistant, Pre – School Assistant and Nanny.

Reality check!
As an Apprentice you need to be fully committed and care genuinely about the care and welfare of children. An Apprentice will work on average 30 hours a week, and could include late evenings and early morning, this may vary throughout the year dependent on work load.

An employed status apprentice will:
• Earn a wage – the national minimum wage for apprentices is £3.90 an hour, although many Apprentices earn more than this
• Get paid holidays
• Receive training
