Who is it for
The AM2 (Achievement Measurement 2) is recognised by the electrical industry as the benchmark of an individual's occupational competence and is run by National Electrotechnical Training (NET), (which is a registered charity) whose principal objective is to secure the vocational training needs of the UK electrical installation industry.
Peterborough Regional College is an approved center registered with the National Electrotechnical Network (NET).
The AM2 test is appropriate to:
•Apprentices approaching the end of their training for the JIB Apprentice Training Scheme and the Electrical Installation Modern Apprenticeship.
•Others wishing to accredit practical experience
What will I need
Applicants must have already completed NVQ Level 3 Electrical Installation qualification through either an Apprenticeship or full time study.
What is covered
Outline of the AM2 Test
•The test is an industry recognised trade test that is controlled by the National Electrotechnical Training (NET) Organisation in conjunction with the Joint Industry Board (JIB) and Summit Skills who are currently the Sector Skills Council for the Electrotechnical Industry
•The AM2 is a practical assessment with a short online component, taken over (2.5 – 3 days).
•The assessments are run weekly Tuesday – Thursday.
•During the assessment candidates undertake a series of timed tasks in specially equipped booths containing typical electrical installation wiring systems. The exercises include installation, inspection and testing and fault–finding and the work must comply with the current IEE Wiring Regulations and be carried out in line with Health & Safety best practice.
How is the course assessed
Candidates will complete a series of timed tasks that cover the following areas:
A Composite Installation (8.5 hours)
A1 Safe Isolation and Risk Assessment (45mins)
B Inspection and Testing of the completed composite installation (3.5 hours)
C1 Fault Diagnosis and Correction (30mins)
C1 & C2 Fault Diagnosis, Location and Rectification (2 hours)
D Online multiple choice examination (1 hour)
What can this course lead to
Qualified electrician status.

Full Assessment Cost
£685 (Inclusive of VAT). If you are booking the test yourself, a deposit of £250 will be required to secure the booking. This booking must be paid in full prior to commencement of the AM2 test. If full payment is not received or the candidate cancels the booking without giving the Centre 21 days' notice any payments received (excluding the deposit of £250) will be refunded
A candidate will only be required to resit the unit(s) they fail.

We have an arrangement with Newark Hotel, a short distance from the AM2 Centre at Peterborough Regional College which gives our AM2 candidates' special rates if required to stay in Peterborough for the duration of the test.
AM2 Prep. Days
The Centre also offers candidates' an AM2 revision course on a Thursday on a date prior to their booked AM2 Assessment. This prepares candidates for the assessment allowing them to be refreshed on current knowledge and practical skills and give the candidates' the opportunity to ask questions on any areas of concerns they may have, which will increase their confidence prior to the test. A ’certificate of attendance' for attending the Prep. Day is issued to each candidate
