Who is it for

This course deepens the specialist work–related focus from previous qualifi cations already gained by individuals and is equivalent to three A Levels.

The qualification is designed to provide highly specialist, work–related experiences in a range of professions within the sports sector and provide individuals with opportunities to achieve a nationally recognised level 3 specific qualification. This will provide learners with the knowledge, understanding and skills that they need to prepare for employment and provide career development opportunities for those already in work. It will give learners the opportunity to develop a range of techniques, personal skills and attributes essential for successful performance in working life. This is equally as suitable for learners who may wish to gain the qualifi cation in order to enter a specialist area of employment or to progress to a higher education foundation degree, or a Higher National Diploma.

It's also an ideal course for those who want to further develop their football, rugby or basketball skills and playing ability for a future career or coaching role within
these areas, or a possible career in coaching and sports development.

Interview Skills Assessment

You will be required to attend a Welcome Event – details will be provided upon application.

What will I need

4 GCSEs at grade 4/C or above and must include English and maths.

What is covered

The Development Centre is a two–year programme including top class coaching from a team of qualified coaches as well as the opportunity to gain a level 3
qualification in sport. You will also participate in weekly games in the Association of Colleges league, regional tournaments and National Cup competitions. In addition you will coach young children and gain an appropriate coaching qualification.

You will study 19 units, examples include:
• Principles of anatomy and physiology in sport
• Fitness training and programming
• Sports coaching
• Sports injuries
• Sports massage

Depending on your entry qualifications you will also have the opportunity to
complete additional qualifi cations such as the following:
• YMCA Level 2 Gym Instructor
• 1st4Sport Level 1 Award in Strength & Conditioning

What can this course lead to

The course includes a broad range of elements, and will give you the choice to study other sports areas at university such as sports coaching or sports development. The skills you'll develop on this course open up a wide range of career opportunities in sport such as health and fi tness, high level sports coaching, sports research or sports therapy.
