Who is it for
The Level 3 Sport and Exercise Science qualification issimilar but by no means the same as the sport studies pathway. It is similar in the fact it is designed to provide
highly specialist, work–related experiences in a range of professions within the sports sector and provide individuals with opportunities to achieve a nationally recognised level 3 qualification (equivalent to A Levels) which will prepare you well for higher education or going to university. It is also similar in that it will give learners the opportunity to develop a range of techniques, personal skills and attributes essential for successful performance in working life.
Interview Skills Assessment
You will be required to attend a Welcome Event – details will be provided upon application.
What will I need
4 GCSEs at grade 4/C or above and must include English and maths.
What is covered
The course will provide you with science–based knowledge that includes understanding sport and exercise within the broader context of underlying mechanisms, behaviours and interactions that impact on performance.
You will study over 18 units, examples include:
• Anatomy for sport and exercise
• Sport and exercise psychology
• Sport and exercise physiology
• Sports biomechanics
• Analysis of sport performance
You will also have the opportunity to complete additional qualifications such as the following:
• YMCA Level 2 Gym Instructor
• YMCA Level 2 Circuit Training
• 1st4Sport Level 1 Award in Strength & Conditioning
What can this course lead to
The course includes a science–based element, and will give you the choice to study other sports areas at university. You can also go on to study sports science at university or follow a career in health and fitness, high level sports coaching, sports research or sport therapy/physiotherapy.
