Who is it for

For those who want to further develop their football, rugby or basketball skills and playing ability for a future career or coaching role within these areas or a possible career in coaching and/or supportive roles of athletes.

Interview Skills Assessment

You will be required to attend a Welcome Event – details will be provided upon application.

What will I need

4 GCSEs at grade 4/C or above and must include English and maths.

What is covered

The Development Centre is a two–year programme including top class coaching from a team of qualified coaches as well as the opportunity to gain a level 3 qualification in sport. You will also participate in weekly games in the Association of Colleges league, regional tournaments and National Cup competitions. In addition you will coach young children and gain an appropriate coaching qualification.

You will study over 18 units, examples include:
• Anatomy for sport and exercise
• Sport and exercise psychology
• Sport and exercise physiology
• Sports biomechanics
• Analysis of sport performance

Depending on your entry qualifications you will also have the opportunity to complete additional qualifications such as:

• YMCA Level 2 Gym Instructor
• 1st4Sport Level 1 Award in Strength & Conditioning

What can this course lead to

The Development Centre is expertly managed by a team of highly qualified
professionals and will provide you with visible pathways into professional and
semi–professional football, rugby, basketball or coaching. The course includes a science–based element and will give you the choice to study other sports areas at university. Or you can follow a career in health and fitness, high level sports coaching, sports research or sport therapy/physiotherapy.
