Who is it for

This course introduces you to a wide range of music technology topics as well as providing you with the opportunity to develop your practical sound engineering and audio technology skills. You will cover topics such as live sound, acoustics, digital audio and sound recording techniques to ensure you leave the course a profi cient and skilled music technologist.

Interview Skills Assessment

You will be required to attend a Welcome Event – details will be provided upon application. You will also need to attend an audition before starting this course.

What will I need

4 GCSEs at grade C/4 or above or other level 2 qualifi cation at Merit. You
must also have achieved a grade C/4 or above in English and/or maths.

What is covered

Topics covered include:
• Music technology in context
• Studio techniques
• Live sound
• Music technology and musicianship
• Creative synthesis and sampling
• DJ performance techniques
• Commercial music production

How is the course assessed

You will complete a number of assignments, including assessed live work, written projects, recorded and notated compositional work, organisation of events etc. Assessed live work takes place during the day, in the evening and occasionally at weekends. There are also external examinations and assessments.

What can this course lead to

This practical course can be used to go on to further study in production, music
technology, sound engineering, theatre sound or television sound production.
You could also use this qualifi cation to start your career in music technology
moving straight into roles in sound production, media or music production.

Are there any additional costs

Textbooks and black clothing will be necessary, plus any field trip costs (if applicable). You will also need to provide your own headphones with ¼” jack adaptors.
