Who is it for

If you enjoy creative theatre and want to develop the skills to enable you to become a confi dent, enthusiastic and inspired performer, then this is the course for you.

You will be prepared to work hard and put in long hours for rehearsals in the pursuit of excellence, both as an individual and as part of a performance team. Students are encouraged to participate in live performances, national and international
competitions and work as part of Peterborough Regional College's Venture Arts Theatre Company and take part in the National Theatre's Connections.

Interview Skills Assessment

You will be required to attend a Welcome Event – details will be provided upon application. You may also be asked to attend a second interview to demonstrate your practical skills.

What will I need

4 GCSEs at grade 4/C or above and must include English or maths. You will need to attend an interview and audition before starting this course.

What is covered

Topics covered include:
• Developing skills and techniques for live performance
• Group performance workshop
• Acting styles
• Physical theatre techniques
• Singing techniques for performers
• Performing with masks
• Final live performance to an audience
In your fi nal year you will be involved in a performance project and form a theatre company, which is structured and managed by the students. The group is responsible for the whole process of selecting, producing, marketing and performing a piece of theatre within a limited budget.

How is the course assessed

You will complete a number of assignments, including assessed live performances, written and practical projects.

What can this course be combined with

You will be enrolled on a study programme that includes various aspects of study that complement your main programme of study. You could re–take GCSE English and Maths or study a functional skill. You could also work on cross–college arts projects.

You will have the option to audition for a performance piece to submit for selection to Sunday Times' National Student Drama Festival (NSDF).

What can this course lead to

You can go on to study for a degree in subjects such as performing arts (for example the BA (Hons) Performing Arts which is offered here at University
Centre Peterborough.

You may also wish to study theatre at a specialist performing arts academy
or theatre school such as Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts (LIPA), London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (LAMDA), Goldsmiths College (University of London) or Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

The course can also lead to work in the theatre industry as a performer,
administrator or practitioner. Careers in arts development, community theatre or
arts youth work are also possible.

Are there any additional costs

You will require appropriate practical clothing/performing arts and dance uniform (discussed at interview) and field trip costs. You will also need to be available for evening rehearsals and performance.
