Who is it for
This practical course is designed to develop your interest in art and design and will introduce you to the subject areas of graphics, fashion design, fi ne art and 3D design. The course can be a really useful and practical step between GCSEs and
BTEC level 3 qualifi cations.
Interview Skills Assessment
You will be required to attend a Welcome Event, details will be provided upon application. If you have other qualifications and/or relevant experience you will be fully considered and may still be able to study for the course. You may be asked to attend a second interview to show portfolio work.
What will I need
4 GCSEs at grade D/3 or above or a Level 1 Diploma in Art and Design. You must also have achieved a grade D/3 or above in English and/or maths.
What is covered
The course consists of core subjects plus a fi nal major project and specialist units by working to briefs. Core subjects include:
• Drawing and visual studies
• Contextual studies
• Exploring ideas and concepts
• Fashion and textiles
• Fine art
• 3D design
How is the course assessed
Assessment is continuous by observation and presentation of practical work and graded against specific criteria. You are also assessed through assignments and a final major project.
What can this course lead to
This course is excellent preparation to help you move on to Level 3
in Art and Design subjects (e.g. general art and design, graphics and photography) providing you achieve a Merit at Level 2 Art and Design and the maths and English you are currently studying.
