Who is it for

If you'd like a career in television, radio, film or advertising production, this two
year course will provide you with the essential academic and technical skills
allowing you to gain employment in the industry or move on to apprenticeships
or university. You will also take part in a series of workshops with tutors from the
Media & Journalism Centre, to develop a broad range of media and journalistic
skills.

Interview Skills Assessment

You will be required to attend a Welcome Event – details will be provided upon application. You may be asked to attend a second interview to show portfolio work or set a task.

What will I need

5 GCSEs at grade 4/C or above, including English and preferably maths and an arts or media based subject, or Merit in a relevant Level 2 Diploma. In order to be offered a place on the course, you must also successfully complete a portfolio examination for arts and media. Further information will be sent to you when you are offered an interview date.

What is covered

Throughout the course you will study a variety of subjects including film
production, film editing, camera techniques, media campaigns, advertising production, scriptwriting, working to a commission, as well as various work experience opportunities.

How is the course assessed

The course is assessed through a range of methods to benefit all students. This includes practical work, industry simulation, projects, presentations, written work and two units that are exam based.

What can this course be combined with

You will be enrolled on a study programme that includes various aspects of study that complement your main programme of study. You could re–take GCSE English and Maths or study a functional skill. Alternatively, for those with C grades in both you will be doing additional programmes that support your qualification. Work experience will also feature on the programme.

What can this course lead to

You could progress on to university or into course related employment in radio production, news broadcasts, script writer, radio technician or sound recordist. With this qualification under your belt you can easily go on to degree courses. You can also study for a media or journalism degree at University Centre Peterborough.

Are there any additional costs

There may be additional costs involved for field trips and you may wish to
purchase additional items or props for performances.
