Who is it for
This specialised music course develops your music performance skills in order to follow a route that could lead to a career in the music industry or study at a higher level. You will be a person who is prepared to work long and unsociable hours and strive to succeed.
Interview Skills Assessment
You will be required to attend a Welcome Event, details will be provided upon application.You will need to attend an audition to assess your suitability for the course. The audition will cover a music performance of two contrasting prepared pieces of music of your own choice and one piece chosen for you to learn.
What will I need
4 GCSEs at grade D/3 or above or a level 1 Diploma. You must also have achieved grade D/3 in English and/or maths. You will also need to come along for an audition before starting this course.

• Rehearsal skills
How is the course assessed
Through practical work, presentation (written and performance) and continuous assessment throughout the year.
What can this course be combined with
You could re–take GCSE English while studying this course. Music students can also take Associated Board Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) theory and practical grade exams in an individual instrument if judged suitable at an additional audition.
What can this course lead to
The course prepares you for employment within the music industry and also provides an excellent grounding to go on to a more advanced course such as the Level 3 Music Performance or Music Technology (you will need to pass the level 2 course in order to progress onto the level 3).
Are there any additional costs
You will need to provide your own industrial standard earplugs for all performance work, instruments, tuners, capos, plectrums, drumsticks, theory work books and music manuscript paper, as well as the department's standard performance uniform
(discussed at interview). You will also need to be available for evening rehearsals and performances.
