Who is it for
If you are a mature student with the ambition to go to university but lack the level 3
qualifications, an Access to Higher Education course is a fantastic solution.
The Access to Higher Education course is a 1–year full–time course specifi cally for motivated individuals aged 19 and over who wish to go on to study a degree, progress in their career, or simply extend their knowledge after being out of formal education for some time.
Interview Skills Assessment
You will be required to attend a Welcome Event – details will be provided upon application.
What will I need
Students will need GCSE English and Maths at grade A*/9 – C/4 to enter the Access to Higher Education Engineering.
What is covered
The Engineering course is very broad and covers a wide range of content and is ideal for people who want to progress to study engineering based degrees or higher education qualifications. You will study a range of engineering topics which are
essential if you wish to progress into a career within the engineering industry. Subjects include applied electrical & mechanical engineering, science for engineering, engineering mathematics, materials science, computer programming, mechanical principles, electrical and electronic principles, and further mathematics. You will also be trained in study skills to help you make the most of your time on the
course and at university. Students should obtain a scientific calculator for this course.
How is the course assessed
You will be assessed in a variety of ways including essays, examinations, formal presentations and portfolios.

The CAVA Access Diploma is QAA recognised and is accepted by UK universities as a standard entry qualification for degree courses. Each Access Diploma is designed to offer you the chance to return to study and prepare yourself for degree study.
