What does the Union do?
What is the Students' Union?
The Student Union is the official recognised organisation representing students at Peterborough Regional College. We aim to provide not just a voice for students to the College Management, but to also provide and develop artistic, cultural, sporting, political, educational, religious, social and recreational activities among our members.
Who elects the students' union?
Every student as soon as they enrol with the College automatically becomes a member of the Students' Union (SU). This entitles you, as a student, to vote in all SU elections and to stand as a candidate in those elections, if you want to.
It makes no difference if you are a part-time or a full-time student - every student registered at this College is fully entitled to take part in all our activities.
How much does membership cost?
NOTHING!
Why have a Students' Union?
All colleges must have an SU - it is a legal requirement. One main reason for having an SU is that colleges are expected to liaise with students and offer them the opportunity to have input into how the institution is run and what services it provides. The Student Parliament sets the strategic direction for the Student Union and is made up of course representatives across college.
What is the NUS?
NUS is the National Union of Students. It is the national representative body for students within Great Britain. Just as Peterborough Regional College SU negotiates on your behalf with the College, NUS negotiates on your behalf with the Government. Not all SUs are members of NUS, Peterborough Regional College is.
NUS represents the interest of over three million students. It campaigns locally, regionally, nationally and internationally on behalf of students and also provides an infrastructure which helps Students' Unions, like our own, to reach their potential through its research, training and advice.
