PRC students get volunteering opportunity
A representative from Christian Aid is popping in to give a talk to students at Peterborough Regional College focusing on their volunteering scheme called, Platform2, funded by the Department for International Development.
Platform2 is a global volunteering scheme for 18 to 25 year olds
who wouldn't otherwise be able to afford to visit a developing
country and get involved with global issues of justice and poverty.
The volunteering placements are in India, Nepal, Ghana, Kenya,
South Africa or Peru. All of the work is locally operated and supervised,
beneficial to the local community and sustainable, offering a structured
placement.
Projects include the following kinds of work: constructing community
buildings, renovating existing buildings, caring for and teaching
children in orphanages, kindergartens and schools and going on
residential trips with community school groups to learn about protecting
the environment and how best to use national resources.
Nick Crippa, Youth Work Team Manager at PRC, thinks this topic
will really interest the students;
“This is a great opportunity for us and the students. They could gain invaluable skills if they take part in this project. We are always very keen for our students to work with communities not just locally but nationally and internationally.”
The talk is happening on Monday 5 October between 1pm and 2pm in the student common room.
