The Showcase Event sponsored by S-Xpress magazine
The Performing Arts and Media Makeup Showcase Event at Peterborough Regional College will allow the National Diploma in Art and Design students to exhibit their ‘green’ dresses in a catwalk on Friday 22nd May. The new environmentally friendly S-Xpress has been transformed into a selection of garments to be showcased alongside other ‘green’ clothing such as recycled denim, corsets and an exciting re-make and re-wear of clothes. This proves that even in a credit crunch you can be glamorous and cutting-edge!
The Showcase event starts at 7pm in the main hall at Peterborough Regional College and has a James Bond theme to strengthen the link between glamour and recycling. There will also be exciting choreography from the college’s internationally acclaimed dance students along with freshest new music acts providing an original take on the classic Bond style. Admission is just £2 – a bargain when there is also a celebrity guest appearance expected. The media makeup students will demonstrate their talents on the catwalk. So if you’re tired of this season’s look then come along and be inspired. Just to prove that nobody does it better when it comes to making dresses out of the student-produced magazine – S-Xpress.
It is due to the green theme of the show the S-Xpress chose to sponsor it. The Winter ’08-’09 edition of Peterborough Regional College’s award winning publication S-Xpress has been printed on FSC paper to help combat environmental issues. FSC stands for the Forest Stewardship Council, which is a non-profit organisation that promotes the responsible management of the world’s forests. Michaela Flake, editor of the winter 08/09 edition explains the reason behind the change: “The latest edition of the magazine features environmental issues, so we decided to continue the theme and make S-Xpress ‘green’. We looked at using recycled paper but because of the way it is bonded, it cannot be recycled again so the magazine would have to be thrown away after use. Therefore, we went for paper from environmentally friendly sources.”
The S-Xpress dresses have also been entered into the Eco Fashion show with ESP magazine on Thursday 29th May as part of Peterborough’s Green Festival. The event is held in Queensgate at 6pm outside Superdrug.
