College raises the standard for Motor Vehicle Engineering

New and returning students to Peterborough Regional College will see a major change to the Motor Vehicle workshop when they return in September.  This summer the College is investing £374,000 on a complete refurbishment of its Motor Vehicle Workshop.  The workshop will have a complete facelift and will be fitted out with the latest vehicle lifts together with a state of the art MOT bay.  The refurbishment will increase capacity in the workshop enabling an additional group of full-time students to be accommodated along with additional day release and apprenticeship students.

Acting Principal Angela Joyce said “This is a very exciting development for us; the refurbishment will enable us to take more learners and provide them with the skills necessary for employment.  We have secured additional funding for 150 additional 16 – 18 year old learners and these places are filling quickly.  As the vocational specialist in the City our courses are proving very popular with young people, the College is clearly where they want to study”.

Motor Vehicle courses at the College have excellent pass rates that are well above the national figures.  As well as full and part-time courses in a wide range of subjects the College offers an extensive range of apprenticeships.  Sue Forsythe the College Apprenticeship Manager said “Our apprenticeship programme is proving very popular again this year.  We offer apprenticeships in a wide range of areas from Motor Vehicle and Engineering to Accountancy.  We work closely with lots of local employers who are keen to provide apprenticeships for young people, and we are always interested in working with new employers”.
