Health & Social Care students excel on new scheme

Peterborough Regional College celebrated the achievements of five of their health & social care students who have been the first students to participate in the Peterborough Community Services (PCS) Enhanced Work Experience programme.

The students have been participating in the scheme since November 2008 and were presented certificates and a thank you gift of £50 by Gillian Booth from Peterborough Community Services (PCS) for their dedication and commitment.  They made a positive impression on their employer during their time with them and each student has been given a reference from their placement manager, praising their strengths, they can then use this for future job or university applications.

The programme enables the students to work within one of the health and social care services in PCS attending a work placement one day per week. This approach means the students can transfer their learning from college to the workplace. Also as the placements are undertaken over a long period of time, it allows the students to build on working relationships and personal skills such as team building, communication and using their initiative.

In return for their commitment to the programme, PCS have offered a wide range of training courses including First Aid, Care Values and Moving & Handling. This should enable the students to gain new skills to help further their study or ready them for employment within the Health and Social Care sector.

Peterborough Community Services are looking forward to having the students back this month for their final year to build on the fantastic work they have achieved so far with Peterborough Regional College.
