'Fame Academy' Comes to PRC

Peterborough Regional College’s popular Excellence in Skills Awards Evening will be taking place on Thursday 9th July, celebrating another year of their students’ success.

Last years event was the first of its kind, with an Oscar style, red carpet, drapes and even Olympic hero Roger Black, gave a motivating speech for the students.

Tomorrow’s ceremony looks to be just as glamorous, with celebrity vocal coach David Grant hosting the evening with a exciting speech and then handing out the prestigious awards to the deserving students.

David, probably the best know vocal coach in the UK having worked with popular artists such as Take That, Will Young and Melanie C, appeared on the BBC 1 programme Fame Academy, coaching the hopefuls in their vocal techniques. Usually teamed up with wife Carrie, they have provided their expertise on shows such as Fame Academy and Pop Idol and are more recently working on projects supporting young people in the Arts and have presented awards at The Teaching Awards and various Education and Learning Awards, as well as David becoming Ambassador for UK Skills, and 2009 has seen him taking on an expanding role in these areas.

Sarah Cooke, Senior Marketing Executive at the College says:

“I was thrilled with the success of last years event, so was really looking forward to this year. We are hosting a bigger and better event for the students and their guests, they have worked so hard all year and have really excelled, hence why they have been nominated by their tutors. We are looking forward to having David come to the ceremony, so hopefully it will be another great evening.”

Many local companies are supporting the event, including Baker Perkins, Princebuild, Garden of Eden, Anne Corder Recruitment, Perkins and Hegarty Solicitors to name just a few.

The College’s Hospitality and Catering students from Parcs restaurant will be preparing a hot and cold buffet and serving the guests as part of their course and music students will be providing a Motown musical melody later in the evening.

The awards will be presented to those students who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in their field and will be across a wide range of curriculum areas, including construction and engineering, leisure and tourism, health and social care, hairdressing and complementary therapies, computing and ICT, hospitality and catering, business and many more.
