Daniel dices his way through 200 candidated to chef position at Claridges!
A couple of months ago, Daniel Smith was getting ready to complete
his Hospitality course at Peterborough Regional College, he never
would have dreamed his first job in the real world would be a chef
in the kitchen of London’s Claridges Hotel!
Daniel joined PRC on a Level 2 Hospitality & Catering course, quickly moving through to the Level 3 qualification and then to the Level 3 Hospitality Supervisory course. Supported throughout by his tutors, Daniel was encouraged to start looking for work ready for when he was to leave college. They spotted the position for a Commis Chef at the prestigious hotel and encouraged Daniel to apply not knowing he would be amongst over 200 other applicants!
Daniel was one of only five people who were successful in securing an interview and he was shocked and overwhelmed when he got the message saying that he had got the job.
“I was so pleased and excited when I heard. It’s amazing here. I moved to London recently and have been working in the hotel for about three weeks. I am learning a whole new way of cooking from the basics again but really enjoying myself. I am so thankful to my tutors at college. I still keep in touch and I am arranging a tour of the hotel for some new hospitality and catering students.”
Claridge’s is a key part of London’s history with celebrities often amongst the guests staying at the 5* suites. When asked, Daniel did say he has been preparing meals some A list celebs, but he was sworn to secrecy.
